About us
Canarsie Community Development, Inc. (CCDI) is grassroots, community-based organization focused on addressing critical issues facing the Canarsie community. By bringing together block associations, residents, local businesses, and public partners, CCDI works to create sustainable solutions to flooding, illegal dumping, infrastructure challenges, and environmental concerns.
Our goal is to empower residents, protect neighborhood assets, and ensure Canarsie continues to thrive for future generations.
On October 22nd, 2012, the Canarsie community was devastated by Super Storm Sandy-a disaster which the community was neither prepared nor organized to respond to.
In 2014, the NYS Rising Committee awarded Canarsie $11.9 million for recovery projects. After the NYS Rising Committee was disbanded Harold Jones founded Canarsie Community Development Inc. (CCDI) in May 2016 with a mission to galvanize block, resident, and tenant associations in Canarsie. CCDI focused on Climate Protection, Beautification, Heath Equity, Climate Equity and Economic Equity.
